East Yorkshire Bat Group carries out surveys of bat roosts, habitat, feeding areas and hibernation sites in the county. The data is used by conservation bodies and ecological consultants. Visit the East Yorkshire Bat Group website
Hull Civic Society
The aims of the Hull Civic Society are to promote: High standards of architecture and town planning in Kingston upon Hull and the surrounding districts. Public interest in, and care for, the beauty, history and character of the area of the city and its surroundings. Hull History Centre
“Our vision is to make history available to all, for research, for learning and for leisure. Our mission is to aquire, preserve, provide access to and promote collections.” Hull History Centre is a partnership between Hull City Council and the University of Hull. National Federation of Cemetery Friends
The National Federation of Cemetery Friends represents groups of volunteers interested in conserving cemeteries large and small. The Cemetery Friends give their time clearing and maintaining areas, often working with local ecology groups to maintain a balance between wildlife and heritage. Friends may also provide guided walks, open days and special events and work on projects with English Heritage and other organisations. Some groups have restored memorials and chapels. Pete Lowden
Pete Lowden is a member of the Friends of Hull General Cemetery committee. He also researches local history and writes about it in some local journals. Pete has published a number of books on the Hull General Cemetery. He is also on the committee of both the Hull Civic Society and the East Yorkshire Family History Society. Tophill Low Nature Reserve
Tophill Low Nature Reserve is an active Yorkshire Water Treatment Works built in 1959. It formally opened as a Nature Reserve in 1993 and features 12 hides spread across a 300 acre site that flanks the River Hull. Visit the Tophill Low Nature Reserve website.
